Pippin’s Story
A generous, animal loving lady had a cage on her porch for outdoor cats. Pippin appeared in her yard, crawled onto her porch and into the cage where he just laid down. The lady brought Pippin into her home. Having nowhere to go with him, she brought him to the shelter.
We took this poor soul in and transported him directly to the veterinarian where he was found to be severely anemic from a flea infestation. Pippin had severe bite wounds on his legs and tail, in addition to wounds between his toes. It is believed he laid on his back attempting to kick away whatever it was that was attacking him. (Many coyotes are known to be in the region Pippin was found.) Pippin also suffered from hookworms, tapeworms, and severe dental disease. All these conditions caused him to be severely underweight…only 7 pounds. Furthermore, his cardiac bloodwork presented abnormal results, potentially from the severe anemia and the worms.
Pippin is so very sweet and smart. He quickly discovered he found someone to love him, so much so that when the staff at the veterinary office called him by his new name, he actually came to them!
What a lucky little boy to have made his way to that lady’s porch!
After receiving care
He was terrified and quite hissy when he first came in, but now that he doesn’t have to fight for his life anymore, he has become a real sweetheart.
He now weighs 8 pounds, still a lightweight but better than the 7 pounds when he first arrived. He was diagnosed with cardiomyopathy and still has rotted teeth and a bad upper respiratory infection.
He was at the vet for quite a while for a rabies watch, but he is now back with us at the shelter and continues to be a sweet little cat.
